Episode 8 of last year's Iowa Show

Larry Zach's fascination with nature began as a young child while exploring the fields, forests, and waterways of SE Iowa more than 60 years ago.  He has never outgrown that fascination. While other kids played sports, Larry was hunting, fishing, trapping and exploring. Degrees in fish and wildlife biology and science education provided formal training. During 18 years of teaching science, Larry's goal was to instill the same passion and respect for nature  in his students.

Now a wildlife artist, Larry has been painting wildlife and nature since the early 1980's. He resigned from teaching science to paint full time in 1990. As a full time artist Zach has been able to spend even more time outdoors. Numerous reference trips across North America and Africa keep providing new painting ideas, reference material and inspiration. Being an avid bowhunter in addition to being an artist, these trips often include both cameras and a bow.

Zach has had a great deal of success both as an artist and as a bowhunter. His artwork has won many awards and raised literally millions of dollars for conservation.  To learn more about Larry's award winning artwork, visit his website at

Though he has taken over 20 species of game with a bow, hunting whitetail deer is still his favorite. Zach is at a point in life now where he enjoys working with friends to put in food plots, develop habitat and managing wildlife even more than shooting the game.
