We Found a Giant Last Night!

This is what the Double G4 buck looks like this year.  The photo really doesn't
even do him justice.  He is a true giant-framed monster.  Unless something
crazy shows up, this will definitely be the number one buck on my list.
Last night, Jared Mills filmed a couple of giant bucks on a bean field in the heart of my property.  One of the two bucks was the deer that we had nicknamed the "Double G4" buck. When he was 3 1/2 he had a double row of G4s.  I passed him up once that year and saw him one other time during the fall.

The next year the buck really blew up but had a withered right side (for some reason).  I thought I was going to kill him on November 5, the morning I shot the buck I called Survivor.  You can see the giant Double G4 buck on Episode 15 from 2009.

Last year we got a few photos of the buck, but even though we hunted him hard all season, we never actually saw him.  He had a giant frame last year and I really wanted to at least see him.  Part of the reason I love bowhunting so much is the adrenaline rush that comes when you see a big deer (let alone what happens when you luck out and shoot one).  I would have counted the season a success to just to have seen this buck - but we never saw him.  I am not sure if he left or was strictly nocturnal.

This is what the buck looked like during the 2010 season. He definitely
hasn't gone downhill since then (when he was 5 1/2).  A beautiful fully
mature buck!
He is 6 1/2 years old this year and as you can see, he is still a giant-framed buck.  They always look bigger in velvet and it can be deceiving, but I am sure this guy will look giant in hard-horn too.  Jared got several minutes of very good footage of the buck so we will be sure to share that with you, along with a few ideas on patterning the buck, when we start to produce the first few episodes for the 2011 season. Those will start in late August.  Hopefully by then we will have some more footage to share.  My wheels are already spinning as I try to figure out what I need to do differently this year from last year in order to at least see this awesome buck.

We'll keep the blogs going with lots of fresh stuff from now right on through the season.

Thanks for your support.  I am really starting to look forward to the season - do you have to wonder why?
