It's been a long hot summer, but thankfully it is almost over. Scott and I have put in a lot of hours scouting, running trail cams, and hanging stands. The bulk of our time, however, has been spent on preparing food plots. We haven't had the equipment to plant nice plots in the past, but a new tractor and tiller has made a big difference.

We've planted a total of 7 so far and I'm working on one of the last 2 today. We have been planting some Frigid Forage seed blends, mainly Big N' Beasty and Trophy Clover. We've also done a few cereal grain plots with rye, oats, winter peas, radishes, and clover. Our Kansas plots are in desperate need of some rain, so we have our fingers crossed that they will survive. If the plots can grow, we believe that it will make a big difference in the number of deer that we see this fall. Most of the corn in the area has already been harvested, so fall and winter forage will be in high demand this year. We've got our fingers crossed that we get some good fall rains so that our plots have a fighting chance.
Other than that, we're gearing up for the MO opener. It's only 10 days until we are once again chasing whitetails! We can hardly wait!
