A New Season Begins
Posted By Josh Neville at 9/12/2011 12:00:00 AM

It seems as if we were just turkey hunting a couple months ago, but the 2011 whitetail season has arrived.  As is the same each year, there are stands we did not get hung and plots that did not get planted, but thankfully we have our prime locations trimmed, planted and ready to go for the opener.  Bo and I will be hunting both NW Missouri and east central Kansas again this year; so come Thursday, the 15th, we will be in full on hunting mode.

The 2011 season is going to be quite different for us this year.  Our top two bucks from the past couple of seasons were both harvested last year.  Bo shot Potato Digger, a 6.5 year old bully buck, from the ground in late October and our neighbor shot Crab Claw 9, a 185-inch main frame ten point, during the late season.

So besides having a new batch of bucks on the hit list, we also have quite a few new properties that we'll be hunting for the first time in the coming weeks.  We literally first stepped foot on these properties while shed hunting and all of our history resides in one season of sheds and the trail camera photos from this past
summer.  But we have narrowed the list of properties down to a select few that we feel offer us the best opportunity to harvest a mature whitetail.  Now all we need is to have the bucks cooperate and graceously walk down the trails we need them to while we are in stand....not too much to ask!  Please make sure to check in each week on the Great Plains show as we journal how we adapt to these new properties and hopefully get one of the mature bucks we have found within bow range!

Best to luck to everyone during the opening weeks and always remember to keep those harnesses on and tethered to the tree!
