Scouted this past weekend in preparation for the upcoming youth early season which happens this next weekend. We were able to find an active scrape which we set a ground blind near for a morning hunt. It is in a transition area between an oak flat and a bedding area.
We also found a field edge with a huge white oak that is dropping acorns and the deer have been hammering it! It looks like hogs have been rooting there with the ground all churned up and broken bits of acorns and acorn caps scattered about. We had constructed a mock-scrape about a month ago in a nearby funnel and the deer have taken it over and are using it. So, the combination of the scrape and the oak will be a sure bet for an evening set-up next weekend. We proceeded to set-up a pop-up blind along the edge and brushed it in with branches to help hide it. We are really excited about that spot.
Cooler mornings and evenings have arrived and we are making some final adjustments to our equipment. I can't wait for next weekend for my Son and October 1 for the rest of us.
Take care!
