Dan Frizzell and I hunted the Early Doe Season this past weekend. Although we did not connect on a doe it was great getting back in the tree. We were after does but we set up in an area where we could scout also. We hoped to catch Fonzie on his feet and we actually did Saturday morning. The bad thing is he came from an unexpected direction and caught our wind. However we think we narrowed down his bedding area a little tighter so hopefully we didn’t mess up. I guess we’ll find out in a couple weeks.
This weekend we’ll be heading up to Dan’s Dads farm in Northern Isabella County for the youth hunt. It’s a farm Dan and I have hunted for years and have a lot of great memories from. I actually killed my first buck here 20 plus years ago. This will be my son Conner’s last year of the youth hunt. Although he’s shot a doe before he has yet to shoot his first buck. I’m very excited and can’t wait to get “Up North” to deer camp!

Counting down the last fours hrs of the day of work. Looking forward to this evening going to do some last minute scouting on a new farm called the "Orchard yard".
I have some tree trimming to do and the joy of changing out the SD cards in one of my cameras on that farm. I am also going to set-up a new trail camera on the west side of the farm. We took some footage of the farm and of hanging a new set there this past weekend. I look forward to sharing my plans for how I'm going to hunt this farm come Oct/Nov!

Today September 20, I went out and scouted a new piece of property. My goal was to find a spot for the opening morning hunt on Oct. 1. With the help of aerial photos and topo maps, I quickly found several natural funnels on the property. I used these natural funnels to find a spot to hunt on Oct 1. While picking out the spot, I noticed that there were many acorns on the ground in the area of the tree that I will be hunting from. Over the past several days, many of the fields in our area have begun to dry up. With the acorns falling, I have noticed that the deer have quickly moved from the summer feed fields to the acorns. I look forward to hunting this new spot on Oct. 1 as I feel that the deer will really be hitting the acorns on their way back to bed.
