The seasons are definitely changing here in Northern Illinois. I went over to the Big and Beasty and Wild Game Buffet food plots on the 18th to check cameras during a light rain at 4:15 in the afternoon. I thought it would be a good time to check the cameras while it was raining to leave the least amount of scent. I never made it to the cameras. There were deer on both food plots when I arrived so there was no need to check the cameras. With the cooler nights the beans are changing colors fast and the deer appear to be transitioning to the acorns and green food plots just as we had hoped. With the season opening in less than 2 weeks it is important to keep shooting your bows to stay as accurate as possible. Make sure you shoot your broad heads too. With a whole summer of preparation in scouting and putting in food plots it would be a big bummer now to have it all go to waste by not making a good shot when it counts. Now is also the time to take an inventory of the rest of your hunting equipment. Calls, rattling devices, scents, flashlights and batteries, bow holders, scent elimination spray, camo clothing and boots and most of all your safety harness. And one more reminder, Don’t just climb up in that stand that you did not check earlier. Get to the stand early and do the right thing and check it before you hunt. Good luck to everyone this 2011 season.

Well, the rains finally came! That was truly a God send here in West central Illinois. Most of you in Illinois have been going through the late summer drought. If you are anything like me, you have had many sleepless nights wondering if you food plots would get rain. Even though on mine it was only 6 tenths of rain, I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth! It's back to praying for more in the future. Hope everyone has great opening day. Good Luck!
