Well, four days left to opening of youth gun season.. Game plan is coming together. The mock scrapes using Timber Valley Scents are working. We have picked up more bucks for hit list. We just need to get these guys coming during daylight hours.
Temps are cooling down and almost all Ag fields are brown and ready to come out. The best chance for us to get one of these bucks is with the crops still up so they feel safe coming to the scrapes. Once the crops go down it seems they don’t come to these spots until well after dark.
Saturday I will be in stand hopefully filming one of these bucks coming up to my decoy right before a Rocket 3 blade 2” meatseeker from my son Matt’s bow goes through it.( we will be using a bow because we can’t use a gun where we are at) If that happens we should have a nice show Oct. 16th.
Good luck to all during 2011 Illinois season.

Well the season is finally here, however the opening weekend was not very productive for Scott and myself. We saw a few does and a couple small bucks, but nothing to write home about. Scott and I have been running scouting cameras non stop, but at this point have no daylight pictures of any hit list bucks. It seems like they are showing up on camera just after dark in the evening and just before light in the morning. Scott and I also had a little run of bad luck and one of our video cameras is out of service. It is getting repaired right now and we are hoping to get it back with in the week so we can get rolling again. The good news is I finished up the movable box blind that I was working on for one of the farms we hunt and it is ready to be deployed. We also had our hit list buck "Small Brow" show up
on camera over the last couple of weeks and he looks pretty good. He has put on a lot of body mass and has some long G2's, but he is missing his G3 on his left side this year so he is only a seven pointer.
I have to work the next weekend, but stay tuned because Scott will be taking his friend, Chris Krueger out for youth season this coming weekend. Chris has filled his tag the last two years on camera and hopefully can do the same this year.

As not coopertive winds and a cool front passed through central Illinois, it limited our morning hunts during opening weekend. Had a lot of deer rather out of range or not mature enough on Saturday the first. Sunday, we had a slower day with one opportinity at last light on two mature does, but ran out of camera light. Its early but in all, was a good weekend.
As this weekend approaches, its youth season, so were using our trailcam pics as the previous week to help us focus on what the deer are doing. Food sources are the key right now with the deer still hitting acorns and our foodplots hard . If its green there on it! Stay safe and don't forget your blaze orange this weekend! Get out and enjoy this time with a child, Remember they are the future to the passion we love! DEER HUNTING!
