Things to Key on…..Food sources change dramatically throughout the season here in the NE. Right now dairy farmers are chopping corn leaving little to no food in the fields. Grain corn is still a week or so away from being combined. Some farms are in the process of planting wheat for next year’s harvest. This will be an opportunity for a great late season food source. We have noticed little to no acorns this year so we will have to find other sources to hunt over. Off season scouting helps with this but in season evaluation can pay big dividends as the season develops. We expect the green sources to become valuable later in the season as the deer shift from feeding patterns based on agricultural transition. It’s a great time to use those Muddy climbing sticks and try out some new areas. Keep your stands fresh and take advantage of the changing environment.

We feel that this change can also play into our advantage as the" furniture " gets re-arranged if you will in the deer’s habitat. This could put them within striking distance of your stand if you observe and evaluate what is drawing the deer. Pay close attention to these shifting conditions and before you know it you will be calling your buddies over to celebrate the harvest!
