Southcentral PA Update:
The pre-rut is almost
upon us. During this “lull” we’ve taken an opportunity to move
a stand, set up a dripper on a mock scrape and monitor our trail
cameras. We’ve seen a few small bucks push does the past week and
anticipate the bigger bucks to be on their feet in daylight soon.
The bigger bucks have shown up on our cameras mostly at night.
However, it’s not an impossible time of year to hunt either. A
friend of ours shot a buck off our hit list this week. Crazy Horn
was taken on an evening hunt. He was working along an oak thicket a
few hundred yards from a soy bean field. We’ve been lucky to have
several acorns and beech nuts on the ground in and around our bedding
areas. So, we’re sticking tight to those feeding areas and hope to
see daylight activity increase towards the end of the month. We also
will increase our rattling and calling as we approach Halloween.
We’re all chomping at the bit, waiting with the bucks for the storm
on the horizon. Good luck out there!
