Just keep on going
|
Well, after hunting nearly every day, day light to dark, from the 1st of November, until the 12th November. I was finally able to put all the pieces together. For us, the rut activity didn’t seem like it would ever get started. That along with bad luck and misfortunes, I was starting to really get bummed about how my season was progressing, but no matter what you we just kept on going. The morning of the 11th it was like someone switched on a light. All day long we had bucks chancing does all around us. At one point we had five bucks running one doe around the valley we were hunting in. The morning of the 12th started out with more heart break. I had to let a really nice 8pt walk because we did not have enough camera light to capture the hunt with any amount of quality and I’m talking about an 8pt that would have been the biggest deer I would have ever taken. When he walked by at 30yds and your camera man says “I can’t see him” you have a feeling it’s just not your day. But, we just kept on going. That afternoon though, everything seemed to come together and I was able to harvest a nice buck and the footage turned out great. I called this buck up and shot him at 40yds from the ground. Due to all the high winds that forced us out of our tree stands. After the rollercoaster ride of luck and misfortunes, I was able to end my two week vacation with a great harvest on film.
