Midwest Whitetail Fan Kills a Giant!

Dana Holmgren with his 195" giant
 he arrowed on November 23rd.

It was the day before thanksgiving and Dana Holmgren had been hunting hard during the 2011 Iowa archery season.  He was down to his last three hours of vacation time for the year as he had been in the stand 33 times already.  Dana was getting to the point where he thought he would end up eating tag soup this year.
After a little while in the stand Dana  had a pair of does and some fawns being followed by a small, grunting buck.  As they got out of the area he performed a rattling sequence bringing a different small buck into his area.  Dana let the young buck get out of the area when he lightly, tickled the antlers together again.  He heard a twig snap in the direction that the little buck cruised off in.  As he turned around he was surprised to see what replaced the buck that was previously there.  A giant buck was walking along the trail Dana was hunting over!  He carefully grabbed his bow and spun around to where he was going to have to make the shot.  As he spun he saw another buck on the other side of him, a live decoy!  The monster buck grisseled up and became stiff legged to run the other buck off.  The giant came within range so he tried to stop him. Nothing.  Dana grunted at him two more times but he wasn't stopping for anything.  He released the arrow as the buck was quartering away from me.  As he was running off Dana noticed the shot was a little back but the fletching was sticking out of the entrance side of the buck so something stopped the arow!  Dana waited in the stand until dark and then headed back to his truck where he called a few buddies for some therapy.  He decided to wait til the next morning where they found his buck of a lifetime on the ground!
This clean typical ten pointer grossed 195 inches!  His brows were over 7 inches!
His G-2 was over 14'', G-3 over 13", G-4 over 10"!  He had an inside spread just over 20 inches and main beams the were 26 inches!  What an awesome buck!
Congratulations Dana!
