20100818153847467.jpgJerod Schenimann grew up in SE Missouri but has lived in Iowa for four years now.  This will be his third season working with Midwest Whitetail and Jerod is looking forward to another exciting season. Going to school full time and working full time made finding time to hunt last year a real challenge, but this year will be much different. Jerod is a career firefighter for the Ankeny Fire Department.  Jerod and his partner have logged a lot of hours scouting this summer and have found some great bucks to hunt this fall, some new, but some they have history with. They have added some new stand locations and a couple new farms to hunt this fall as well, so it's looking promising so far. Jerod and both Brandons will be sure to keep everyone up to date on what they're doing every week and what the deer in they're area are doing. Thanks for watching Midwest Whitetail!

Jerod's 2011 Hit List

"Curly"

20110816140003948.jpg

Curly is a main frame 9 point with lots of tine length. I named him Curly because of the curl on the end of his left side G2. It looks like he also damaged his brow tine on the left side but just bad enough to bend it over and give it some character!  The farm Im going to hunt him on has alot of bedding area and a perfect creek crossing that lots of deer use. Its the same farm I killed my buck on in the 2009 season of Midwest Whitetail!

"Big Mac"

20110816140002669.jpg

Big Mac is a buck that my buddy Bryan and I are starting to get some history with.  Bryan had a couple encounters with him last year but he seemed to be a little camera shy. Different story this year, look at him now! He's a wide and heavy main frame 10 point. He looks to be a mature buck. The farm he runs has a long narrow funnel on it that connects some agriculture on one end and thick CRP grass on the other end. Wind direction is crucial to hunt this farm so we have to wait until it is perfect.

"Titan"

20110816140005025.jpg

Titan is a buck that we got several trail camera pics of last year and we passed him multiple times.  And boy was that a good move! Just look how much overall size he put on in a years time.  Tine length, mass, extra stickers, he's gt it all! He's a tall and heavy main frame ten point with split brows. He's on the same farm as Coat Hanger and Big Mac so with the right wind it will be an interesting year on that farm!

Jerod's 2010 Hit List

Crop rotation has really hurt s this summer as far as velvet footage goes. Last year we had a ton of beans and it seemed everytime I went out to film we had shooter bucks. Not so much  this year....... I know the bucks are there and I'll find them somehow. I've got lots of trail cameras running 24/7 and I've been out sweating my butt off scouting so keep checking my hit list for new bucks!

"Lazy Boy" 20100916094339788.jpg

Lazy Boy is a buck we're starting to get some history with. We have a shed from him from two years ago and had a great encounter with him last November in one of our food plots. We named him Lazy Boy because the afternoon we had the encounter with him he would walk 50 or 60 yards and bed down for 20 minutes, and then do it all over again. He showed up on a trail camera a couple weeks ago and looks to have put on some mass.

Update:
I am not happy to report this update but we've all been there. We had a lot of history with Lazy Boy and although we didn't get to harvest him I think we are lucky to at least be the ones that found his skull and can still appreciate the buck that he was. We found his remains in a ditch during this past shed season.

"Cruiser"

Cruiser is a new buck to us20100916094339164.jpg and we really dont know much about him. We've only got a few trail cam pics of him but from what we can see of his body he looks to be a mature 8 point, the kind of buck we'd like to harvest. He's been very active during daylight hours so he will be a buck we go after the first few days.

"Dream Weaver" 20100916094339492.jpg

We had a couple encounters with Dream Weaver last fall but he was more interested in chasing doe's than listening to what we had to say. He showed up again this year and is still a great buck. He stays on the same farm as Lazy Boy. We hung a new set spefically for these two deer so it should be exciting come November!

"HollywoHollywood.jpgod"

Hollywood is a deer we've got some history with. We got several trail cam pics of him last year and filmed him in velvet twice. He showed up on our cameras all of last summer and up until about the second week in September then disappeared. We finally had an encounter with him the last afternoon of late muzzleloader season but like most bucks of this size and age do, he waited until after camera and shooting light to come out. We never found his sheds but have been getting trail cam pics of him again this summer. He looks to have put on some mass and an extra kicker but lost a G3 on his right side. He's older than we thought.  He looks to score in the 160's.  He'll be a deer that ranks high on the list.

"Big Rig"

Big Rig is a new deer to us that showed up on a trail camera in early July. When we started getting pictures of him he looked to be a main frame 10 pt. with double drop tines. The most recent pictures of him showed that he lost the drop tine on his left side but kept the one on the right. He really put on a lot of size in a month!Big Rig2.jpgBig Rig1.jpg

"High RiHigh Rise.jpgse"

High Rise runs the same farm as Hollywood and Big Rig. He's a heavy racked 8 pt that carries his mass all the way out. We found a shed this spring that we think came from him. Not sure about this deers age so shooting him will be a last second decision if it presents itself.  It's taken a few years to get this farm where we wanted it but it's finally getting there.

"Coat Hanger" Coat Hanger use.jpg

Coat Hanger is another new buck that started showing up recently at a mineral sight. The farm he is on is small,  but has a great pinch point right in the middle of two bedding areas that lots of bucks travel during the rut. He should score around 150 as an 8 point.

Update: Coat Hanger was a buck we were after pretty hard last year. He's a mature 8 point, just the kind of buck we like to take off of our farms. My buddy Bryan Masters had a great encounter with him last November. Long story short, a marginal shot was made and after a very long blood trail we came up with nothing and wondered if we would ever see sim again. He showed up on a mineral lick in late June and looks lo have put on a few extra points! No more pics of him yet.

"Slim"

Slim just showed up recently and I think we have a year of history with him. After digging through some old footage, I'm pretty sure I filmed him right at dark one afternoon last summer. It's hard to tell for sure but he looks a lot like the buck from last summer. He added a lot of size, a kicker on his left side and a split G3 on his right. He was standing by the front gate when I pulled into the farm to film last week, hence the short clip I got of him.

Brandon and Jerod's 2009 Hit List

These guys have a bunch of land to hunt in Iowa so it should be interesting watching these guys hunt this season.  Make sure you keep checking back for updates because these guys have a lot of bucks to add to their hit list this year.

The following words are Jerod's.

20090817154723435.jpg "THE PERFECT 8". We got this picture on a new farm so we don't have any history with the buck. I believe he's a mature deer, and a whopper of an 8 pt. in my book! I think he will score in the mid 150's, maybe even 160 but I hate to guess too high.

We plan on being out every night working hard to get more footage of big deer to put on our hit list.  Hopefully during the next few weeks we can add a few more bucks to the list.

"BONES": This is a buck we started filming on a new farm we will be hunting.   I dont have much history with him. I've filmed him several times in velvet. It's a small farm but has some crops for food and a textbook pinch-point that, with the right wind, may be the spot where Bones meets his end, hopefully! No trail cam pics yet but some awesome velvet footage! I think he's a 4 1/2 year old deer that will score around 170".

"THE TALL G2 BUCK": He is the eight pointer to the right.  The Tall G2 Buck runs the same farm as Bones, so again other than trail cam pics and velvet footage, no history with this deer. He's a big main-frame 8-pt with a couple stickers. His G2s should be about 15 inches or so! With the mass and tine length he should score around 160".

"PRETTY BOY": Here is another hit list buck on that same small farm. He's a main frame 9 pt. We've got trail cam pics and velvet footage of him also. I have not seen him hard-horned yet but he may be a deer I would pass and let grow for another year. He should score around 155" or 160". If he's old enough - and shows his face near my stand - that will be as big as he gets!

20090922113030122.jpg"HOUDINI": He got his name because he is an extremely hard deer to track down. We got one trail camera picture of him last year and only saw him on the hoof once. We found both sheds in March.  Last year, he was an 8-pt that we scored at around 154". Who knows what he will grow into this year!

Here is a short video on what "Houdini's" sheds looked like last year.  It will be interesting trying to find this big boy back.

20090922113017673.jpg"HOLLYWOOD": He is the newest deer we've added to the hit list. He just showed up a couple weeks ago and we've been lucky enough to film him twice as well as get trail cam pics.We like to let this farm sit until around October 25th and do nothing but run trail cameras. There is so much food on this farm that it is hard to pattern the bucks early in the season. "Hollywood" is a main frame 10-pt with two stickers on his right G2 and one on his left G2. He should score around 170".

Here is what "Hollywood" looked like a few weeks after we got the fist picture of him.  He really put on good tine length in just a short amount of time.
