BJ Happersett grew up in a small town in Wisconsin where he quickly realized he had a huge passion for big whitetails. After taking his first 150” ten pointer at the age of sixteen he was hooked, and found himself following his addiction to Iowa. BJ hunts with pro staffer Jim Cooper on a family farm that they have been managing for the past 5 years .
BJ’s Hit List
“SLIP” is at the top of the list. He has earned his name from the first encounter BJ and Jim had with him. Slip has a tendency to all of a sudden be standing within 30 yds of the stand without warning. Slip did just that 3 years ago when he was a 3 ½ year old. He has been carrying on the tradition ever since. Again last year we had two encounters with Slip, and once again he put the slip on us not once, but twice. He showed up this year on 8-5-09. This deer is very aware of his surroundings and has a way of just showing up!
“LUCKY” We have been following this 150” 8 for the past 4 ½ years. The first encounter we had with him he was a 2 ½ year old with a ton of potential. Last year Lucky showed up two different times during Thanksgiving weekend. He came under the tree less than a foot away following three does and we were unable to get the camera on him so we had to pass. He showed up this year on 6-21-09, though early in the growing stages he is on his way to being a brute again this year.
“TRAITOR” Numerous trail pics of this buck last year had us itching to spend a lot of time on this section of the farm. After a short time in the beginning of the season we quickly learned this deer was living on the bordering farm, hence how he got his name. We did not give up on this monster as we knew he would be in the area during the rut. We are anxious to get a peak at him again this year.
Keep checking back for updates on BJ and Jim's hit list. They plan to get out and capture some footage of these great Iowa bucks.
