Tim Filiowich is hosting and producing this year’s Minnesota show for Midwest Whitetail. The outdoors have played a huge role in Tim’s life since childhood. He grew up in a family that did not take the outdoors for granted, and he is now teaching the ways of the outdoors to his four year-old daughter. As a child, Tim used to pass time in the ice shack making fishing videos with his aunt and uncle.
His interest in video continued, and in high school Tim produced his first deer hunting video. Both video and the outdoors have been a passion for Tim, so it comes as no surprise that he would be involved with Midwest Whitetail. Currently, Tim writes an outdoor column for a local metro area paper and also does some freelance writing for various outdoor media outlets. This year should prove to be a challenging and rewarding year for Tim. He is excited to pursue his passion of whitetail hunting on Midwest Whitetail and bring you all along on his journey as he hunts the Metro Area and the Red Wing area.
Tim Filiowich's 2010 Hit List
“Future 10”
The first deer on this year’s 2010 hit list is a deer that I refer to as Future 10. Future 10 is by far my favorite deer
and the one that I have the most history with. I named him “Future 10” last year because when I first saw him he
was
an 8 that I knew would end up being a 10. This deer has been around a long time and I estimate him
at least
6 ½ years
old. I first laid eyes on him in 2007 and he looked to be at least 3 ½ years then. Its 2010 and he's still
showing up to get
his picture taken in the same spots that he has for years. I hunted this deer two seasons and he
disappears when the season
opens. Have I met my match? I guess we'll find out soon enough. This year I have put t
wo food plots right on top of him. I
believe he beds off to the East and hopefully the food will draw him in. Just like
last summer I lost him on cam for about a
month but once again he is back. During my hit list show I will go into
more detail of my plans to hunt this deer. I honestly
think he is either going to make or break my season as I just
want to focus on him although I do have more deer on my list.
During the off season we did find his right side shed
which measured 53 inches broken. We added 10 inches where he broke,
estimate the left side is bigger + an inside
spread we estimated him at about 145 inches last year. This year he is showing more
mass and his beams, g’2’s and
3’s seem to be a little more lengthy so I think he will break the 150 mark. I think this will be a great
story to follow so
join along in the hunt for Future 10 on the Minnesota show!
“ Bed Head”
This is another deer that I like because of his character. He is a non-typical with what appears to be a split right side brow tine and a third split that drops. He is definitely a goofy deer and I think he may be a deer that I saw last year on the same property, but it’s too hard to tell as he was missing a side when I saw him then. The only time I saw him this year was when he was showing up in June. Once the deer moved to the soy beans I lost him and haven’t been able to film him or get any pictures. I am really hoping that it changes soon but we'll see. I estimate that he is 3 ½ years old and will gross Pope and Young. Its hard to make a guess as I have not seen him since June. It looked like he had some room to grow but we’ll make the call when we see him again. This year I have been staying off the property as much as possible so I have cams that still need to be checked, lets hope he shows up.
“Shooter”
His name speaks for itself. This deer comes from a property south of Red Wing that I will be spending a lot of time on this year. I hunted there a few times last year and saw one buck that could possibly be this same deer but need a better look to make a positive ID. I had not scouted here much but I left a camera for about 3 weeks during August and he showed up. I went down to the property with one of my camera guys and we pulled the card and found this deer on our first try. He showed up a ton so I know he is around and think we have a real shot at him early season. There are beans and corn and he is coming through an area that I regularly have a stand set. What was great was seeing him at 5:30 in the afternoon. He will be around, I just hope we can close the distance and get a shot at him. It would break my heart as I really want Future 10 but I am not picky. The name is self-explanatory. I asked my camera guy for this property, Tommy Truax, what the first thing that went through his mind when he saw that deer and he answered “Shooter” so there you have it!

These are going to be some very fun deer to chase this season and I’m excited to see how it all unfolds. I have a few more potential deer that may end up on the hit list but I am sure that these 3 deer should keep me busy!
Tim's Hit 2009 Hit List
The following words are Tim's.
This year I have a few deer on my hit list and I have a few that are borderline. I also have a couple deer that I have seen but were too far away to make a distinction as to if they are hit list material or not. For the deer that are not on my hit list I will remain optimistic but lets start with the deer that I have identified.
"FUTURE 10": This deer has to be my favorite. I remember when he first came in for a picture he was so small. The interesting thing about this deer is that he was small the first week of July and then on a trail cam pic about a week later he almost doubled in size! The second week of July is when he got his name. If you look at the end of his main beam you can see its quite balled up and if you look even closer it appears his beam will split giving him ten points. It didn’t take long until I confirmed that he would indeed become a 10.
It was about another week later when I got him on film. You can see the similarities in his rack but what really did it for me were three distinct marks on his front left shoulder. I could not pick that up with the video camera but looking through my Monarch X’s I could see the marks as plain as day, this was my deer. I have photographed this deer on my trail cams more than any other deer on my hit list so I am hopeful he will remain a homebody into September and present me with an opportunity. As far as scoring this deer I think it will take some more growing but I will be lucky if he pushes 135.

-2009
2007-
I lost this deer after I saw him on the 5th of August. He wasn't showing up in the same spots that I had trail cameras and it began to worry me that he fled the area. With one last attempt before the season began I decided to re-locate some cameras. After a week I went and pulled the cards and to my surprise I found him! He showed up just about every day! The biggest surprise was that he showed up with no velvet and blood running down his face. This deer is becoming more and more unique as the days pass. Notice the picture from 2007. The racks are identical. If its not the same deer then its his twin. If it is the same deer he is a very old deer, possibly 6 1/2 years old! What a trophy.
"AGGRESSOR": This may be the biggest of the deer on my list this year. When we estimated his score in July we gave him 140. Since then he has put on some more length especially on his G3’S which are now towering above his G2’s. You can see the difference between the picture that was taken on 7/19 and the video, which was filmed on 8/5.
I haven’t seen him since the 8th so I can only hope that he has grown some more. From what I could tell on the 5th, he had some more room to grow. I gave this deer his name because of his demeanor around other deer. The day I filmed him he was the most dominant buck in the group and you could tell when he walked through the crowd. He wasn’t afraid to push the others around.
"BIG BROTHER": This deer was named because the two times that I have seen him he always hangs around with a smaller deer. In this clip he actually chases out another bigger deer when he gets close to his “little brother”. This is another deer that I am going to estimate in the 130’s this fall. He is definitely a trophy deer for me but I have others I have in line ahead of him. I guess if the day comes that we meet face to face I will make the decision then. He does deserve a spot on my hit list and I will surely pursue him once the season opens.
UNDERDOG": I named this deer because I feel he was the underdog of the group that I have been filming. I have only seen him once and during that time I hardly noticed him. I was filming and all my focus was on “The Aggressor” and “Big Brother”. I remember him in the field that particular day and I made a mental note to look at the video when I got home. For most of the video he hung back and didn’t come as close to me as the others but he sure is impressive and right up there with the other deer on my list. I actually think this deer may bump “Big Brother” down a notch as he seems a bit more massive and maybe even older. Again, I’m going to say this is another 130 class deer.
Stay tuned as I have my eyes on a few other deer and possibly may have a surprise deer that will surpass all these deer but have not confirmed anything yet.
