Joe Knochel lives in northeast Missouri with his wife (Lindsey) and daughter (Adaline).   He is a licensed professional engineer and enjoys applying science to his hunting strategies.  Joe’s hunting motto is without a journey the trophy has no meaning.  Joe and Rick hunt a variety of small properties in northeast Missouri.  These 8 properties range from 25 to 250 acres.  Hunting multiple properties, managed or unmanaged, is part of the Knochels stagey to keep hunting pressure to a minimum.  Their key property is a family owned 70 acre farm.  This farm is a testament that small properties can produce big deer.

Rick Knochel enjoys living in Northeast Missouri with his wife (Karyl).  He works in the Emergency Department as a Nurse and also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.  Rick appreciates spending time in the woods with his brother Joe and analyzing the smallest details in an attempt to seal the deal on a mature buck.  Rick and Joe also enjoy hunting with their older brother Ben and their dad Eric.  “Hunting is and will always be something we love to do as a family!”

Rick and Joe's 2011 Hit List

#1 Decoy 9

If you watched the show last year you may remember this buck.  This is the buck Joe called into the decoy and was unable to close the deal.  Click here to watch the "Decoy 9" hunt from last year http://www.midwestwhitetail.com/gallery/78/media/2464/mo1012-decoy-action.html.

We haven’t picked up any trail camera pictures of this buck this season, but we know he made it through deer season and he spends his summers on a neighboring farm.  We have a score to settle with this buck!!  After having multiple encounters with this buck last season, we have high hopes of closing the deal on this Missouri Giant!!

"Wishbone"

Wishbone is an awesome buck that I filmed in velvet.  He has two long brow tines on his right side that make him easy to distinguish!  This is the buck I am after!

Rick harvested this deer on September 15. Watch the full hunt Episode 6, MW Missouri.

Rib-bone is a buck that I filmed with Wishbone.  He would probably score better, but looks a little young.  We may try to hold off on the buck for one more year.

"T-bone"

T-bone is a buck I have some history with.  Two years ago I drew back on this buck, but got busted by a doe while drawing back.  I believe he was a 3 year old at the time.  I got trail camera pictures of him last year, but never saw him.  One of the first pictures I got this year was this buck.  He has since went undetected, but I hope he revisits our 70 acres closer to the rut!

Jawbone is the newest addition to our hit list.  I filmed him under one of our stands during the last week of September.  He has a great 10 point frame!

"PLANTER": This buck has a great story.  On October 25th my brother Joe missed this buck with his bow.  On November 5th the buck followed a doe past my stand and I missed him with my bow.  We then saw this buck in late December and picked up one side of his shed.  We searched for the second one to no avail.  This spring my uncle was planting some beans and the second side got stuck in the planter (Hence the buck's name).  Maybe we should have called him Lucky, but we are hoping his luck runs out this year! He grossed over 170 inches last year.

20090818160130373.jpg"3-BEAMER": This buck showed up on a small tract of woods in the middle of a huge cornfield.  We figure he and his running buddies won’t stay long when the corn is harvested, so we plan to hunt this deer early.  I am not sure if he is 3 ½ or 4 ½ and will have a decision to make if he walks by.  He will likely gross in the 130’s.

"POPS": Pops is one of the bucks running around with 3-Beamer.  He looks to be 4 ½ so he meets my qualifications.  Nice wide 8 but not great genetics.  Again looking to score early season before he moves out when the corn is harvested!  Could also see him cruise back through when the rut hits. Approx score: 140 inches.

Joe's Hit List

Joe and his brother Rick hunt a mixture of private and public land.  The river bottoms nearby create quality farm land and the adjacent bluffs produce ample habitat - and many good bucks.  This deer season is sure to be another adventure and Joe is excited to share it with the viewers of Midwest Whitetail.

"FROSTED FLAKES": Named Frosted Flakes because of his light colored velvet.  I filmed this buck in mid-July and have been dreaming of him since.  This buck is a mainframe nine-point with an abnormal brow tine.  I am still developing a strategy to get this bruiser within bow range, I’ll be sure to keep you informed.  Approximate score: 150 inches.

Here is the latest picture that I got of "Frosted Flakes".  He put on a lot more tine length and looks like a real giant now.  He is going to be tough to get but I think I can do it during rut.

"LUCKY CHARMS": This buck showed up with Frosted Flakes but I did not get a great look at him.  His width stands out and he has a large blocky body which makes me think he is 4 ½ years old.  Approximate score: 140 inches.

Here is the latest picture that I got of "Lucky Charms".
I got this picture around the 22nd of August and you can tell that he grew after I filmed him this summer.  I would love to get a crack at this guy.

20090818165909339.jpg"GOLDEN GRAHAMS": I have several trail camera pictures of this deer from two locations approximately ½ mile apart.  This buck appears to be a 3 ½ year old and sports a beautiful ten point rack. I feel there is a good chance of seeing this deer early in the season because he has a large home range
