Joe Knochel lives in northeast Missouri with his wife (Lindsey) and daughter (Adaline). He is a licensed professional engineer and enjoys applying science to his hunting strategies. Joe’s hunting motto is without a journey the trophy has no meaning.
Joe and Rick hunt a variety of small properties in northeast Missouri. These 8 properties range from 25 to 250 acres. Hunting multiple properties, managed or unmanaged, is part of the Knochels strategy to keep hunting pressure to a minimum. Their key property is a family owned 70 acre farm. This farm is a testament that small properties can produce big deer.
Joe's Hit List
Joe and his brother Rick hunt a mixture of private and public land. The river bottoms nearby create quality farm land and the adjacent bluffs produce ample habitat - and many good bucks. This deer season is sure to be another adventure and Joe is excited to share it with the viewers of Midwest Whitetail.
The following words are Joe's.
"FROSTED FLAKES": Named Frosted Flakes because of his light colored velvet. I filmed this buck in mid-July and have been dreaming of him since. This buck is a mainframe nine-point with an abnormal brow tine. I am still developing a strategy to get this bruiser within bow range, I’ll be sure to keep you informed. Approximate score: 150 inches.
Here is the latest picture that I got of "Frosted Flakes". He put on a lot more tine length and looks like a real giant now. He is going to be tough to get but I think I can do it during rut.
"LUCKY CHARMS": This buck showed up with Frosted Flakes but I did not get a great look at him. His width stands out and he has a large blocky body which makes me think he is 4 ½ years old. Approximate score: 140 inches.
Here is the latest picture that I got of "Lucky Charms". I got this picture around the 22nd of August and you can tell that he grew after I filmed him this summer. I would love to get a crack at this guy.
"GOLDEN GRAHAMS": I have several trail camera pictures of this deer from two locations approximately ½ mile apart. This buck appears to be a 3 ½ year old and sports a beautiful ten point rack. I feel there is a good chance of seeing this deer early in the season because he has a large home range. I have a stand set up on this farm for a northwest wind that I plan to sit in during the seasons first cold snap. Approximate score: 135 inches.
