Damon Detling, the co-host of Midwest Whitetail-Ohio, is as passionate and knowledgeable about deer hunting as any one person on the face of the earth. He truly lives it and studies it year round. Damon has been bowhunting for 35 years, beginning at the age of 12. He's taken several Pope & Young bucks and his walls are covered with bone. His whitetail hunting knowledge has been featured in the pages of several well-known whitetail magazines . He's been planting food plots for over 20 years and implements a quality deer management program on all of the properties he hunts. He is truly obsessed with the monster bucks of Ohio. Damon lives on a farm in southeast Ohio where he raises beef cattle and operates a small archery shop. He is currently employed at the Noble County Correction Institution.
Tammy Whitsell has one year of bowhunting under her belt and can't wait to start the adventure again. Last year, she took her first buck with a bow, just a few days into the season. She followed that up with 4 does, two with a bow and 2 with a muzzleloader. She's a natural with the stick and string and enjoys sharing the passion for whitetails with Damon.
Damon Detling & Tammy Whitsell's 2010 Hit List
"Teaser"
For now, we only have one buck that is definitely on the hit list but we are sure there will be more to come as the season evolves. Although I wouldn't hesitate to put an arrow through this great 4-year-old buck, Tammy gets the first chance at this bruiser. She named him Teaser because that's exactly what he did all of last season...Tease Her! This year, we have a better idea of what the old boy is doing and are excited about the chances of Tammy tagging this buck!
Damon and Tammy's 2009 Hit List
Damon and Tammy will be doing most of their hunting in Southeast Ohio. They have got a great hit list started but make sure you keep checking back as the year goes on because they will certainly be adding to it!
"LUCKY": With an estimated gross score in 2007 of mid 160's, Damon's hopes are high for 2009. "Old Lucky" will be at least 6 this year and Damon's hoping for just one more crack at him. This trail cam picture of "Lucky" came from 2007. This was the same year that Damon made a bad shot on the buck and "Lucky" got away with a grazed brisket. A few weeks before the season's end, Damon saw him working a ridge from his stand. He moved the stand about a hundred yards and sure enough "Lucky" walked right under him during the last week of the season. Unfortunately, he had shed his antlers. Damon saw "Lucky" twice last season but never got a trail camera photo of him. He spotted a buck in early August this year that he is fairly sure is "Lucky". Hopes are high and "Lucky" still tops the list for the third straight year!
"HIGH TOWER": "High Tower" is the 8-point in the photo with "Lucky" in 2007. Damon got another trail cam picture of the buck in '08 and had several encounters but had already filled his buck tag. This year, "High Tower" is on the list. Damon's guessing he'll probably be in the mid 140's as an 8.
"Tedder": "Tedder" is a new buck that showed up on the trail camera this year. The buck is estimated to be in the low 140's. He's not at the top of the list, but definitely holds a spot.
"GRIM REAPER": "Grim Reaper" is a buck that showed up late last winter on the food plot. He's estimated at 5 and will probably score in the mid 150's. The buck has yet to be seen this year, but Damon's hopes are high that the "Grim Reaper" will make an appearance.
