Jeff Knott grew up near Tracy, Minnesota on a diversified crop and livestock farm. Starting at a young age, he had a deep interest in the outdoors including hunting, trapping, fishing and conservation. Currently, Jeff is a swine nutritionist for Ralco Nutrition, Inc. (Marshall, MN) and provides technical nutritional support to Ralco’s domestic and Asian business. Other than the United States, Jeff has hunted in Canada and Africa. Jeff also enjoys farming and spending time with family and friends. He and his wife, Jeanne, have two daughters (Marin – 4 years old and Elsie-2).
Both having last names with a silent K, Brian Knochenmus and Jeff Knott had lockers right next to each other in high school, and now 15 years later they sit in neighboring tree stands. Both of them have a passion for deer health and an appreciation for the social dynamics of local herds. They've hunted primarily in MN, SD, and Manitoba, Canada, and they look forward to sharing our stories through video.
Jeff Knott's 2010 Hit List
"HAT" (High and Tight)
(10 point estimated 135 +/-)Saw this buck on archery opener 2009 as he was traveling with TOGA. This is a unique buck that isn’t terribly wide but he is extra tall with great main beams. HAT has been nailing the Rack Back this summer and is traveling with 2 yearling bucks.
I expect to go into HAT’s home territory about the 3rd week of October and make a lot of noise crashing antlers and grunting to try to bring him out of the swamp and cornfield that he lives in. Should be an exciting hunt as this is how I hunted TOGA in 2008, he came in behind me at 5 yards and I could hear his breath but never got a shot.

"Mule"
(10+ point)
This buck came through and licked on Rack Back for almost 2 hours on June 24, 2010. Since then he has stayed out of focus. Knowing this area and how the bucks operate, he is not too far away and will likely show up again just after Labor Day. I named him MULE because he is a very mature buck and is bigger than any buck I have gotten on trail cam by June 24. If he continues on his growth curve he will easily be 140 inches +. This particular area of this piece of land has the majority of does, so by the time early rut comes around we will be hunting this area.
"Tentative 10"
(10 point estimated 130+)
The Ten 10 is a buck that I have any history with. He resembles very closely a 146” buck I harvested back in 2003. He is wide and heavy and not terribly tall. He has been frequenting a Rack Back site quite often. A couple times he has come into the mineral site very tentatively. Ten 10 has only been coming in during the day, typically between 7 and 9 in the morning. This is a buck I will hopefully have a pattern on and plan on hunting opening morning.
"Triple Crown"
This deer showed up mid-June and has a split right brow tine. He came into view again on August 27 and has developed into a real nice, heavy 10 pointer with a little sticker point on his G-4. He’s got a lot of character and I have gotten him on film almost every day lately. Hopefully he’ll continue in his pattern and I can get a shot at him on opener.
Jeff's 2009 Hit List
Jeff and Brian will not share the same hit list this year so make sure you check out Brian's hit list page as well.
The following words are Jeff's.
"TOGA": I’ll call him "TOGA" as he lives 250 yards from a cemetery and I had an encounter with him last year. Last year, he was a big 10 pointer – tall and out to his ears and this year he appears to be off to a great start.
- "TOGA" in 2008.
Jeff hadn't seen "Toga" since the beginning of July this year. He checked his trail cameras and "Toga" was back. He showed up around the middle of August.
"RAKE" – His rack reminds of the tines of a leaf rake. I have pictures from him last year (2008) as he was a member of a bachelor group of bucks. I have included some of him from last year. I hope he’ll turn into a 10-pointer this year.
The buck standing next to “Rake” in this picture from last year is the one I killed on opening morning last year after patterning this group. "Rake" is ahead of that buck from last year quite nicely.
Here is the latest picture that Jeff got of "Rake". "Rake" first showed up last year in August and he showed back up on 20th of August of this year. He has also gotten a lot bigger and is obvisously more mature this year.
"CURLY": His brow tines curl out. Don’t have any pictures of him from last year. He might be one for next year, but I’ll keep an eye on him. There is a BIG bodied, heavy rack buck in the background of 2 of these pictures. I definitely want to see him closer – he may be the big one of the bunch.
"Curly" showed back up on the 25th of August. He put on some more tine length and looks better than ever. I will be grabbing my bow if he comes anywhere close to my stand this year.
