Mike Sawyer lives in Marion, IA with his wife of 16 years, Shari, and their two children, Megan (9) and Owen (6). Mike and Shari met in college at the University of Northern Iowa where Mike was a member of the golf team. When Mike isn't at a T-ball, soccer, softball game, or a school program he is an avid golfer and still plays competitively in tournaments. Mike and his family also enjoy boating and fishing, especially on the Mississippi River in Northeast Iowa.
Mike has been deer hunting in Iowa for nearly 30 years with the last 20 years being primarily focused on bowhunting. He first tried stick and string when he was in college at the urging of Midwest Whitetail founder Bill Winke, his longtime hunting and family friend. It took one archery season and he was hooked! Obviously he hopes to shoot a great buck each year but Mike also loves to take does. Midwest Whitetail's first season in 2008 was the season of a lifetime for Mike as he was able to bowkill a freakishly huge-bodied deer called "Stickers" (Episode 19) during the rut and a giant 180" 8-pointer during the late season (Episode 33)! Mike and his good friend (and cousin), Chris Mack, will be back at it again in 2009.
Chris Mack lives in Eastern Iowa with his wife, Abby, and 2 year old daughter, Audrey. He is a 2003 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in animal ecology. When he’s not with his family, chances are he is out fishing or hunting. He is especially fond of bowhunting whitetails and turkeys. Chris grew up hunting the hills of Northeast Iowa on the family farm. On Midwest Whitetail, Chris will be filming his cousin, Mike Sawyer, while they hunt on the Winke farm in Southern Iowa. However, he hopes to spend a little time in front of the camera this season as well.
Mike and Chris's Hit List
Mike and Chris will hunt in southern Iowa on Bill Winke's farm this season - as they have in the past. They will share Bill's hit list with him and will try to bring you some exciting hunting footage. Along the way, you can be sure that Mike and Chris aren't afraid to take out some does. Sometimes they get more excited while shooting does than they do when shooting bucks. Watch along this season as these guys try to match the season they had last year on Midwest Whitetail.
