We picked this 3-acre field because of its proximity to the bedding area, acorns, water, and a travel corridor. There's a north/south ridge that runs down the Northwest and West side of the field that is mainly all thicket and bedding area. This ridge holds does all year long. There's another ridge to the southwest of the field that bucks seem to cruise when the rut starts. This east/west ridge allows them to scent check the bedding area to the northwest of us. Both of these ridges should funnel deer into the food plot. Also both ridges, and the field edge have a bunch of white oaks to give the deer some selection. We picked a tree in the southeast corner of the field so we could hunt it with a northwest or west wind.
We planted beets, alfalfa, and turnip mix so the deer had food in the summer and fall. This should be a great spot to decoy a big Iowa buck!!!
