Todd Anderson was born and raised in Moline, Illinois, one of the Quad Cities on the Mississippi River between Iowa and Illinois. He lives with his wife Lindsay, daughter Georgia, and trusty yellow-lab Morgan in East Moline. Todd works in a family business in the commercial construction industry with his father Larry, which allows him the opportunity to slip out to the woods on those chilly overcast early November mornings!
Every year, you can find Todd in the woods and fields of Illinois hunting dove, turkey, geese, ducks, and pheasants. But it all started, and still revolves, around the great whitetail deer. In 1995, a family friend allowed Todd to bowhunt their farm and he was hooked. He killed his first deer the following year and has been lucky enough to kill several trophy bucks in the years since then.
Today, Todd mainly hunts on several private properties near his home in northwest Illinois with his father Larry, fellow Pro-Staffer Jimmy Hill, and several close friends. They are all very committed to the trophy management program that is in place on their hunting grounds and it is really starting to show up in the quality of the bucks on Todd's hit list. Typically, few mature bucks show up on their main farm until the end of October or early November, which allows for an aggressive early season doe harvest. Be sure to keep tabs on Todd and his crew this year as they try to balance herd management with trophy harvest.
2010 Hit List
"SPOT": Spot got his name from the white patch of hair he has between his shoulder blades, which makes him very easy to keep track of. We first saw spot as a 1-1/2 year old buck during the 2006 season. He was a basket-racked 8 point as a 2-1/2 year old and started to show a little potential in the 2008 season as a 3-1/2 year old. We knew we had some good 160 class bucks on the farm last year so we gave Spot a pass as a 150 class 4-1/2 year old. He developed a typical 5 point side on his left and a split brow tine on his right side giving him 10 total points. This year we expect him to add a lot of mass and be a 160 class deer, hopefully adding some more character points too.
"THE MULE":
This is a buck that showed up in late July on the trail cams in an area that we didn't put much pressure on last year. As you can see from the picture he looks like a mule deer with the matching split G-2's. Two years ago I found a shed with a split G-2 that would have been off of a 120 class buck about 1-1/2 miles from this year's picture. He is spending this summer on a farm that is too thick to hunt so I'm going to try to catch him in one of the doe bedding areas that are between his current home range and the location that the shed antler was found.
"SPLITTER":
Splitter showed up in late-September 2009 in a field 1/2 mile south of our farm. On Halloween morning he responded to a grunt call while we were hunting the Bridge area. Hopefully this year we'll have a 2nd chance at a bigger version of him. I expect to see Splitter come into the farm once the crops are out this fall and think he'll be in the same area that we saw him last year - The Bridge.
Todd's 2009 Hit List
The following words are Todd's:
“MONARCH”: Turned into a beautiful main-frame 10-pointer that will score very near 160” or slightly better. This buck is a great looking deer that is at the top of the hit list. We saw him last year near “the bridge”, which is a staging area where mature bucks like to rub and scrape as well as intercept does. I expect that he will show up in this area towards the end of October and we’ll be waiting for him!
To the left is a picture of "Monarch" from this summer. He made a huge jump and is a very impressive buck.
“BUBBA”: In 2009 "Bubba" has developed longer main beams but not much more mass. I wouldn’t be heart-broken if he made it to next year to add some mass, then he’d be something special. Last year he showed up near a major creek crossing funnel area during the pre-rut and we expect he will be in the same area this year once the crops come out of the fields.
