Brad DeMoss lives on a small farm in southern Iowa with his wife, Tiffany, and their three kids, Hunter, Cloie, and Lilly. While growing up, most of Brad's deer hunting happened with his family during the shotgun season, but he soon found his passion for bowhunting, "There is just something about the adrenaline rush you get with chasing that "monster buck" by yourself," Brad says.
In the spring, you will find Brad splitting his free time between turkey hunting and coaching baseball. Summer brings the end of baseball but the beginning of planting food pots and getting the duck boat ready. In the fall, Brad spends his time putting up the trail cameras and making sure the stands are placed in the prime locations on his own land and on the private farms that he has opportunity to hunt. Brad likes to hunt creek bottoms and pinch points on all of the farms. Many have shown great potential and he looks forward to the chance to harvest one of his hit list bucks this fall.
Thad DeMoss, 34, was born and raised in southern Iowa. He lives there with his wife Christine, and their two children, Zach and Jackson. To pay for his hunting addiction, he has worked as a lineman at the local electric co-op for the last 11 years. At age 4, he began coon hunting with his father. He went along, at every chance possible. His father instilled a love for the outdoors and for hunting in general. As he grew older, he began to focus his attention on whitetail hunting, and bowhunting in particular.
Thad hopes to pass the love for the outdoors on to his children, just as it was passed to him. The excitement of the upcoming season is definitely building, and he can't wait for a frosty morning in early November, so he can sit in his tree stand and watch the sun come up.
Brad and Thad's 2011 Hit List
"Mr. Clean"
|
This is a deer that Thad Demoss has had his eye on for a few years now. He got his name because he was a clean 10 pointer with no abnormal points. Well this year Mr. Clean has gotten a little dirty! He has a kicker off of one of his G-2s and a dagger point coming from his right base. He has grown into a giant of a deer and Thad plans on putting his tag on him this year!
"Tank"
|
Here is another deer that Thad is after this year. Last year he was a nice ten pointer with a huge body. After a cool encounter last year where Tank bred a doe, Thad was excited to get a look at him this year. Thad was surprised at what he saw. Tank's rack is nothing like last year's but still has some cool characteristics and if he and Thad cross paths, it might be Tank's last year.
"Mr. Crabs"
|
Brad DeMoss recently acquired permission to hunt some property that is very close to his. He put up a trail camera and got this buck that he is going to call Mr. Crabs. He is a very cool buck with crab claws at the end of his beams. Brad is going to go after him hard this year and hopefully he can encounter him this year and put him down!
Brad and Thad's 2010 Hit List
"Mr. Clean"
This buck was on the hit list last year and has reappeared for the 2010 season. He is a perfect 10-pointer. He got the name Mr. Clean because there are no abnormal points whatsoever on his rack, and he looks to be very even on all of his tines. This year he looks bigger overall, but lost some tine length on his G-2. Worst part is he has broken his brow tine off.
Brad and Thad's 2009 Hit List
The following words are Brad's:
"GREAT 8": He is a nice, tall-racked deer. His G2s look to be around 10 inches. I will have to wait to see if I shoot him because he is on a farm that I picked up late and didn't get to do much scouting.
"LARRY AND CURLY": Well, I still haven't been able to get permission to hunt the land so like I said, will have to wait and see if I can catch them on my trail cameras on my farm.
"THE BIG CEDAR": He's a BIG boy on the farm that I picked up in late August. If it comes down to him or the "Great 8" I might have to pass on the "Great 8".
"TALL BOY": He's a deer off my farm that I just found on trail camera pics. He's an 8-pointer that has long brow tines and is differently a shooter. It is hard to see him in this picture but you can make him out well enough in the background and know that he is a shooter. It will be fun to try to get a better look at him and maybe even some good footage during the season.
The following words are Thad's:
"MR. CLEAN": He is a perfect 10-pointer. He got the name "Mr. Clean" because there are no abnormal points whatsoever on his rack, and he looks to be very even on all of his tines. I'm guessing him to score around mid 140's to 150. I would be tickled to get a shot at this deer.
"KICKER NINE": This buck is a nine-pointer with a small kicker off his left G-2. This deer doesn't have the biggest rack in the woods but he looks to be a good, heavy mature deer. He seems to be the one to show up in daylight at the camera. I guess him to score around 140.
"WHITEY": Here is a good solid ten-pointer. He is definitely an old, mature deer. The trail cam pictures that I got of him was taken in a small white clover field - thus the name Whitey. He has pretty good spread and mass, but short on tine length. I still think he will push into the 150's. I would be proud to put may tag on this deer.
