2-DAY GUN SEASON THIS WEEKEND

GUN SEASON - DECEMBER 19-20

If you haven't filled your tag yet, this weekend just might be the time to get it done. Ohio is having it's 2-day gun season on Saturday and Sunday (19th & 20th) and will offer Buckeye State hunters another opportunity to fill the freezer and put some antlers on the wall.

For the most part, the deer have settled back down into a feeding pattern trying to recover from the rut and first gun season.  They are busy filling their stomachs while attempting to put back on the pounds for the remainder of the winter.

The Ohio Pro-Staff have reported seeing the majority of their deer feeding in food plots or late season food sources such as corn, soybeans, winter-wheat, rye, and especially the brassica plots. The deer appear to be feeding on somewhat of a predictable pattern, however many of the mature buck sightings have been at last light.

For areas that receive minimal pressure, these late season food sources will provide a great opportunity to fill a tag.  For pressured areas, try setting up on escape routes that lead to and from thick cover.  Bedding areas are also a great location to sit out the entire day while the guns are cracking.

Traditional deer drives can offer another great opportunity to get the mature bucks on their feet and in your sights.  Just remember to always be safe!

There have been some reports of bucks shedding their antlers.  In most cases, it has been due to an injury that the deer sustained.  However, it won't be long before the bone starts hitting the ground.  So, if you are trying to manage for older-age-class-bucks, take an extra few seconds to make sure that "enormous doe" isn't really a buck that has dropped his antlers.

BE SAFE & GOD BLESS,
