Maybe I have a warped sense of humor, but I really had to laugh when Larry Zach recently shot a great Iowa buck and then blood trailed the deer only to find that he no longer had antlers! You can watch the entire sequence on the latest Iowa show. Check out Iowa Episode 24.
There is no question that the bucks are shedding a bit earlier this year than past years. I suspect it is the stress from the cold month we just endured. That is not to say that all the antlers are down. They aren't, but there a good number of them on the ground right now.
Be careful if you are still shooting antlerless deer and if you are gearing up to hunt sheds, it is about time to get started. Good luck.
