Austin Keene currently lives in the mountains of southwest Virginia, but spends more time on the road than he does at home. Introduced to hunting by his father and grandfather, he shot competitively in IBO and ASA archery tournaments as a teenager and took his first whitetail with a bow at age 12. At 19 he became a professional guide in Idaho and in 2005 began guiding at Seven J Outfitters in Wyoming for whitetails, mule deer and antelope. In 2007, Austin began work on his B.S. degree at the University of Tennessee, where a mutual friendship with David Williams turned into a hunting/filming partnership. Recently both completed the Surf and Turf Entertainment Outdoor Camera School in 2009. Austin completed his B.S. degree in Wildlife Management in 2010 where he was a Research Assistant for two field seasons on a large whitetail research project. As an assistant he was involved in determining browse preference, population estimation through camera census and chemical immobilization of wild free ranging deer for the purposes of ear tagging and GPS radio collaring to study seasonal movements.
He considers himself blessed to have been as fortunate to guide and hunt in as many states as he has, but finds his true passion lies in hunting and filming those giant whitetails of the Midwest. Excited to team up with Jim Kuhlmann and Andy Melton, Austin can’t wait to put some Illinois soil underneath his soles and get after ‘em in the Land of Lincoln!
