8.30.10 Updates from around the state.....

Another week has flown by which means we are a week closer to the season opener. The bow shops are filling up and the ranges are crowded. In the earlymornings you can feel a hint of fall in the air reminding you what is about to happen. Its almost my favorite time of year.

This last week has been a busy one. I had a unique opportunity to head down to Southwest Minnesota and do some scouting and filming with pro staffers Jeff Knott and Brian Knochenmus. It was a fun time as I got to learn the lay of the land down there a little bit and see what they are up against. Its a great area with a lot of nice deer. The deer are fed good which can really Knott.jpghelp put on some antler. With the amount of pressure that the area faces they still manage to grow and find these awesome deer. We are going to do their hit list show on Sept 8th. It should be a great show with some really nice deer. Lately they have had a heck of a time locating their deer. They know they are there but they are hard to see and find due to the sky high corn and the fields of soy beans. Some of these deer disappear into the oceans and don't come out until the acorns start falling. Every year it's the same thing, they find them in the early summer, they disappear and then they come out again shortly after the 1st of September. It makes hunting tough with all that corn so like every one, they are hoping for a dryer fall so the farmers can get in and harvest. While I was there I had the opportunity to film one of Brian's hit list deer and we also found another one on a trail camera. It was an exciting time! Be sure to stop back on the 8th and watch their show, it will be another good one!

Like last week we are continuing the same theme here on the blog. Every Monday morning you will find a new blog with updates from various pro-staff members. Here is what we have this week.

Brainerd Area:

Lauer.jpgWe are less than a week away from the ND bow opener! Our stands are hung, blinds are in place and we couldn't be more excited! The deer sign is looking good and the land owner has been seeing a few good bucks running around as well. Now if the heat and humidity stay away we should be in good shape. I've talked with a few guys on the team and it sounds like there will be a bunch of us in ND that weekend. So be sure to check next weeks blog to see how Team MN did in North Dakota.

Northwest:

Well, Ryan and I are t-minus five days until we can kick off the season in ND. Opener fires up at noon on Friday and we are pumped! Based on our scouting through the summer we have Swanson.jpgabout 7 shooters that could be in the area, one of which is a buck we had multiple encounters with last year; The Colonel. We estimate that this deer is 5 1/2 years old this year and has added a little extra trash to his rack as well. He is basically nocturnal already, but odds are in our favor he could stroll by at day break. We have a new stand location on the exit end of a slough that the local bucks have been using on the way back from morning bean buffet. We feel this stand is an Ace in the Hole and is going to produce the first morning out, as long as the wind is right to sit it. It could be an interesting first few weeks of the season for us and we are happy to be able to share it on Midwest Whitetail!

East Metro:

It's been another week of preparation and scouting.  I've been staying out of the woods as much as I can, but I've been out to check the trail cameras every now and again.  Last week I mentioned that a nice 10 point had showed up on the land I hunt in Wisconsin.   Well, he is nice enough to make my hitlist.  My hunting partner/cameraman named the buck "Milo" and he has been hitting the mineral almost every night.  Both the Minnesota and Wisconsin archery seasons open on September 18th and as of right now I plan to be hunting for Milo on opening morning.Versland.jpg

Throughout the week I've been watching a large group of bachelor bucks in Minnesota.  Each night at least 6 to
10 shooter bucks enter the same 50 acre been field.  I do hunt about 500 yards from this field, but none of the bucks are on my hit list as I do not think the bucks travel the small 10 acre property that I have permission to hunt.

I also saw my first hard horn buck of the summer this week, so I am really getting excited about the upcoming season!

Southeast:

Hey everyone...  Well its first week of Sept and we all know what that means. Thats right North Dakota deer and MN Bear opens up and Jill and I are back to the grind and will be after both starting Friday. The Midwest Whitetail Chevy is fueled up, packed up, shined up and ready to have some miles on her as we start our bow-hunting season. Checked my cameras yesterday and today and haven't seen much for bucks on them but I know they are there and ready to put one down with the Hoyt. The Thermacells are locked and loaded as the mosquitoes are really bad right now but they will not stop me from sitting in a tree ( I hope ). Hope everyone of my teammates has safe travels this week and we are all successful. Check with us next week to see if we scored in these two states.
