We are so fortunate to have Jim Ryser writing and performing much of the music we use on the Main Show at Midwest Whitetail this year. I don't know a lot about music but I understand that Jim is a well known musician that used to tour with Mellencamp a number of years ago. But I do know about people, and I really like Jim. His enthusiasm for everything he does is infectious and that is more impressive to me than his musical credentials. Even if he never played a note, he would be a great friend because of who he is, not because of what he has done. I don't know where he gets the energy.
Jim suffers from Spina bifida. It is a birth defect. I got this definition from Wikipedia: "Some vertebrae overlying the spinal cord are not fully formed and remain unfused and open. If the opening is large enough, this allows a portion of the spinal cord to protrude through the opening in the bones." That can't be good!
Jim has undergone countless surgeries (55 of them, actually), has been addicted to pain meds and beaten it and now works for a major hospital chain in the Indianapolis area heading up their pain management department.
I am going to guess that Jim inspires everyone that he encounters. He certainly inspires all of us at Midwest Whitetail who have had the pleasure of meeting him.
In this blog, I thought you might find it interesting to see Jim in action creating one of the musical tracks we use when producing the shows. Jared Mills, producer of the IL show, created this fun, short segment.
Jim is awesome. We love him for who he is, not what he does for us. But we certainly do appreciate what he does for us too!"
