Well its Monday morning and we have some great news to report here for Midwest Whitetail Minnesota. 9.6blog1.jpg

At last count we had 12 guys hunting for the North Dakota Archery opener and it appears we had some success out there. Archery season does not open in Minnesota until the 18 th so to satisfy the urge and a chance to harvest a velvet buck a lot of bow hunters hop the border. This year the ND opener was met with a lot cooler temps than last year. I know last year the Lauers went out there and had a pretty tough time with the heat but not the case this year. I’m hoping this weather we are having now is a good predictor for the rest of the fall here in Minnesota!

Anyways, I am short on details as of now but I do know that Craig Warner shot a 10 point buck and Scott West shot an 8 point. Both bucks are in full velvet which makes it that much more exciting for the guys. We’ll definitely post some pics and the video when we get it so stay tuned…..

A few words from Wade Christopherson who was in North Dakota:

Hey everyone Jill and I have our Midwest Whitetail Chevy headed back home late tonight from bow hunting in North Dakota. None of the big bucks showed up for us but we saw plenty of does and filmed some good video over the weekend. Long days and never ending mosquitoes made for a tough hunt but this is what we do and live for bow hunting. We shared camp with some of our teammates and had a lot of laughs and good times over a sizzling campfire. Jill was a little tired but hung in there with me every step of the way and was steady behind the camera. Weather was great as the afternoons were warm but the mornings and evenings were cold and perfect. I want to say congrats to my teammate Scott West on a beautiful buck he arrowed in North Dakota and may we all fill our tags this fall there. We will be headed back to ND in a few days to hopefully arrow a mature buck. Jill and I will update you every week so you can follow our season. Stay safe and God Bless.

Minnesota:

Now lets check in with Minnesota. It’s down to the waiting game now. I am pretty much set for the season just waiting to get out there. I have moved around a bunch of cameras to see if any of 9.6blog3.jpg my hit list deer are on their feet during the day. Next week I will be checking and pulling those cameras. I’m hoping to reveal some type of pattern or at least some daytime activity. As of last week most of the bucks have returned to the area, which is great news. There was a lull in one of my areas this summer, all of the bucks vanished. I was guessing that they left for the beans but never saw them there either. Anyways, I wasn’t getting good buck pics for about a month and then last week I pulled two cameras and my hit list deer showed up again along with all the other bucks. They are hitting the plots pretty good and also attacking my rack back mineral site, which is great to see. I’m hoping they stick in the area for a shot at an early kill.

As far as weather and happenings around the state everything seems to be on schedule. I drove up to McGregor, Minnesota for an early goose hunt and we hit the fields with temps in the high 30’s and low 40’s. We had a beautiful morning with some success. It appears that the acorns 9.6blog2.jpg are already starting to fall but from what I have seen the crop has not been that good. At least it does not seem that bountiful compared to last year. With the rain we have and the tremendous amount of browse available to the deer this year you would think that it would be different and maybe it is, just not in my woods.

West Metro:

Only 13 more days left till we kick off the 2010 Minnesota archery season! I am trying to get some bucks on camera, and its been like bad luck is following me everywhere, I have people on private property messing with my trail cameras. They have been turning them around on trees and then turning the cameras off.  No wonder I’m not getting any pictures of deer. Its been tough, but on the flipside of things we are in the 9.6blog4.jpg process of hanging stands and making sure that the Hoyts are on and that we are comfortable shooting again. Season is coming fast!
