Jared Mills is new to Midwest Whitetail this year and is the producer of the Illinois show.
Jared is from Iowa City, IA, and graduated in 2010 from Maryville University in St. Louis, MO. He played shortstop for the baseball team and received his degree in Sport Business Management. While attending school, Jared completed a number of great internships including those with Rawlings Sporting Goods, the University of Colorado athletic department, and the Texas vs. Nation Bowl Game.
With being new to the area, Jared has not been able to acquire permission to hunt any private farms so far. Because of that, he will primarily be hunting public ground this fall. And although he would rather be hunting private property, as would most people, he is excited for the challenge that it brings and hopes to share this story and experience with you throughout the season. Below is a few of the bucks that Jared has encountered while scouting some public ground this summer. He is not giving up on the possibility of gaining permission to hunt more properties so be sure to check back and see the updates to his hitlist.
2010 HITLIST
THE TRIPLE DOUBLE: These three deer are bucks that I have gotten footage of a couple of times this summer, including one night where I got footage of all three at fairly close range. Each one has some kind of "double" characteristic, hence the group name "Triple Double."
"Double Drop": The name for this deer is pretty obvious...kind of. He has two small "droptines" (droplets...) coming off his left beam. They are very small droptines so it is kind of poking fun by giving him this name but droptines or not, this is a deer I would definitely take off of public ground this year given the chance.
"Double Patch": Here is a deer that I filmed at very close range this summer. He has two throat patches, hence the name, and I believe this is an older deer. I have also gotten trail camera video of this buck, I'm hoping he will still be around come fall.
"Double Blade": This is another deer that I filmed with the other two bucks. "Double Blade" gets his name from the G4 and G5 that he is trying to grow on his left side. They are no more than an inch long so they have the appearance of a saw blade. I am waiting to see this deer in the fall before I make a decision on shooting him. As of right now, I'm not sure he is a shooter but would love to see him this fall to get a better look.
